The British Embassy invites applications for the position of Financial Assistant. This is a key position that directly supports the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) objective of achieving “Five Star Finance” – the vision for the FCO to gain recognition as the “Best in Whitehall” for financial management and control.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Financial Assistant’s responsibilities will include:

receiving and processing all authorised claims;
processing transactions on the Embassy’s (Oracle-based) accounts system;
bank and cash account reconciliations;
banking of receipts and processing bank transfers;
assisting the Finance Manager in the presentation of the monthly Post Account;
filing of all accounting correspondence; and
deputising for the Finance Manager in their absence.
Candidates must have a high standard of spoken and written English (native speaker or IELTS score of at least 7) and French. They must be IT literate, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office. The Embassy may run practical tests to ensure that applicants have the required skill levels.

The key competences for the job, as outlined in the FCO's competence framework, are:

Managing self, others and resources
Delivering results
Customer focus
A working knowledge of “Oracle Financial Management” applications and Arabic language skills would be advantageous but are not essential.

The successful candidate should be available to attend training in the UK in the late part of 2011.

The gross salary for this position is Dhs 12,116 plus a benefits package.
